The show kicks off July 13, 2010, with an artist’s reception July 16, 2010 from 5pm to 7:30pm

Billed as an eclectic mix of thought provoking, yet highly livable pieces, the show explores the connective tissue that transports us along life’s journey. “In music, an intermezzo is a kind of bridge between two complementary worlds,” Bibb said. “I love that idea, that when you’re supposedly in-between the ‘important’ stuff, that something really powerful can happen.”

It’s a theme in harmony with Bibb’s multi-layered style. “Texture is a big part of my world. So much of what I do is about unlikely combinations, the juxtaposition of objects and ideas, of materials and emotions. I’m not sure how many other artists are working in tar, but for me, that’s where the story comes alive. Once I started layering the wood canvas, I just couldn’t stop. I knew I was where I needed to be.”

Like Bibb’s earlier work, the latest collection is a pastiche of wood, metal, paper, canvas, even found objects, tar, and wax. Simple motifs, including nature and the female form, stand in measured contrast to the quirky compositions, pointed imagery and high-low mix of materials. The result is a wide-ranging and ambitious collection that captures the rich, black wink of Bibb’s skewed world view.

“We’re living in a wild time,” Bibb concedes. “There’s so much wonder and misery and surprise in life. You just have to open your eyes to enjoy it.”

Like Bibb’s most recent collection, Heart of Dixie, Intermezzo promises to sell out quickly. The show premieres July 13, 2010 at Laklind Fine Art, 662 Canyon Road, Sante Fe, New Mexico, and runs throughout the month.
