The Heart of Dixie show hangs in Santa Fe next Tuesday. Below is a a guitar a just finished and shipped out to Lakind Fine Art. In my flurry of painting I only took one picture of the painting in its process, but in these two pictures, you can plainly see the affect the tar has on the color of the paint.

I added the rest of her left arm and hand, along with the tulips and stems. I spent some time rendering her blouse with a tar application, got it somewhat finished and then decided to start over on it. I ran a new tar wash across the entire blouse, so now I will have to go back in and add the details. I still need to spend some time rendering her face.

This is a paintings I am currently working on and hope to finish tonight or tomorrow night. In the bottom right image, you can see where I added the tar glaze, then in the picture to the right, you can see where I wiped the excess tar away. She does not have a title yet. Her left hand still needs finishing and the tulips need to be attached to the canvas. The tulip stems, which will be made of rusted metal, need to be added as well. Then I will need to add a tar glaze to her blouse for texture and additional depth.

The TimesDaily in Florence, Alabama recently ran an article about the St. Francis Project and featured my painting. The St. Francis Project got its start at Christ Church, in Charlotte, N.C. It's an idea based on St. Francis and his vow of giving away all of his possessions to those in need. Many churches of all denominations and faiths have outreach programs for their communities and missions, but St. Francis Project involves the church raising money, all of which will be given back to community organizations or individuals in need. Read More

The St. Francis Project

In January of 2009, Trinity Episcopal Church adopted a new outreach ministry called the St. Francis Project. The objective of this project is to raise and give away $1,000,000 over ten years to agencies and ministries in our community and world. The money is given out primarily through grant applications and the criteria for these grants are based on the prayer of St. Francis.
Thirty two local and regional artists present work interpreting some aspect of the Prayer of St. Francis. Opening reception for patrons and artists will be Thursday, October 8th, from 5 pm to 7 pm. Admission is free. Gallery Hours: 10 am to 2 pm, Tuesday through Friday, other times by special appointment. All work will be for sale.
